Teflon

Fluoropolymer coatings available as solvent or water or powder based materials. There are several worldwide produces of these fluoropolymer based coatings.

The following table compares fluoropolymers properties by the type of a polymer:

  Properties Operating Temperatures Range [°C]
PTFE (Poly Tetra Fluor Ethylene)
  • Extremely low coefficient of friction
  • The highest operating temperature
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Good abrasion resistance
  • Food contact acceptable
  • Available only in water-based liquid form
FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene)
  • Excellent chemical resistance coating
  • Nonporous film
  • Excellent nonstick properties
  • Electric breakdown resistance 204°C/400°F.
  • FEP is available in water-based and powder forms
  • Food contact acceptable

PFA (Per Fluor Alkoxy)
  • Non-porous coating
  • Coating thickness up to 1,000 micrometers (40 mils)
  • Greater chemical and abrasion resistance than PTFE or FEP
  • Food contact approved
PVDF (Poly Vinylidene Di Fluoride)
  • Crystallic structure
  • Very good mechanical stress and abrasion resistance
  • High electric breakdown resistance
  • UV Radiation and weathering resistance
  • Food contact acceptable
from -40 to +150
ETFE (Copolymer of Ethylene and Tetra Fluor Ethylene)
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Can operate continuously at 149°C
  • The toughest of all fluoropolymers
  • Film builds up to 1,000 micrometers (40 mils)
up to +150
